The character of Green Beret "John Rambo" was developed by the Canadian writer David Morrell, and his novel was adapted to the screen with Stallone as the main character for First Blood (1982), which also featured Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy. It was an unexpected hit as well as polarized the general public due to the fact that it dealt with the Vietnam War, which was at the forefront of American minds. No matter what political views it was a worldwide smash, and the sequel came out with Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and received even greater criticism from various quarters because of its plot premise of American MIAs believed to be held in Vietnam. The film's creators insist that bad publicity does not exist. John Rambo's second adventure proved to be a big success for Stallone. It cemented his place as one of America's most popular male actors of the 1980s. Stallone in the midst of a rise in popularity, called upon Rocky Balboa, his sparring rival, to return to his boxing ring to defend American patriotic spirit from The Soviet threat. This was one of the Russian boxer named Ivan Drago played by Curt Dolph Lundgren. With the violence level of the film's fourth installment extreme, it caused a lot of controversy among "Rocky" lovers. The brutality levels were more severe than the previous Rocky films.
